01/27/2026 - Cost Coalition and Progress Iowa released a new report detailing how rising costs are squeezing families and small businesses across Iowa—from tariff-driven price pressure and higher grocery bills to escalating health care and energy costs. The report highlights year-over-year increases in staple items (including coffee and beef), growing food insecurity, projected winter utility spikes, and widespread concern about losing affordable coverage.

Cost Coalition advisor Terry Holt joined Zach Wahls and Sarah Trone Garriott for a press call focused on affordability in Iowa ahead of the President’s visit. Speakers pointed to rising everyday costs—especially groceries, energy, and health care—and argued that current policy decisions are adding pressure on families and small businesses across the state.
